EASY-ECO Training on Evaluation of Sustainability in Brasov (Romania)
May 16-25, 2007 - apply until January 20, 2007

The third training opportunity in the EASY-ECO 2005-2007 series of trainings and conferences will be held from 16th to 25th May, 2007 in Brasov, Romania. The course explores key elements in sustainability evaluations and is specifically focused towards bringing together young researchers with evaluation practitioners as well as local and international experts in the field. The intensive 10 day training combines theoretical input from 9 different international experts with hands-on training on a real case together with the evaluator in small groups. Thus, participants will gain knowledge applicable in practice and will be able to conduct actual sustainability evaluation projects after attending the training.
The EASY-ECO Brasov Training, hosted by the National Centre for Sustainable Develeopment (NCSD), will be a great chance to meet an international team of renowned trainers and also serve as an excellent networking opportunity! For further details on the structure of the training, the virtual pre- and post-training phases, bookings and accommodation, please visit the EASY-ECO website.

EU-Grants are available for young researchers (with less than ten years research experience) to cover all costs (travel expenses, participation fees, accommodation and living allowance).

Application will be open until 20th January, 2007. Details on the application process can be found at http://www.sustainability.eu/easy/?k=apply.

'Evaluating Sustainable Development' - new book series accompanying the EASY-ECO series of events

The objective of this series is to provide a bridge between academic and applied research, and present results directly relevant to policy makers. It will address methodological challenges, facilitate an exchange of experience between disciplines and practitioners, and contribute to capacity building for evaluation The volumes will comprise of selected papers presented at the international EASY-ECO conferences organised by a consortium of seven leading European universities and research institutes.

Edited by André Martinuzzi, Research Institute for Managing Sustainability, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Vienna, Austria and Peter Hardi, Chair, Department of Business and Society and Director, Center for the Social Foundations of Business, Central European University Business School, Budapest, Hungary.

Vol. 1: Sustainable Development in Europe
Concepts, Evaluation and Applications

Evaluating sustainable development is becoming increasingly important in policy making, evaluation practice and the scientific world in general. However, at present, there is neither a generally accepted set of measures and evaluation methods, nor specific standards to be met. The first volume of our new book series addresses these issues and presents an important and concise analysis of the state-of-the art.

Edited by Uwe Schubert and Eckhard Störmer, Research Institute for Managing Sustainability, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Austria.

Vol. 2: Impact Assessment for Policy Appraisal: Methods and Practice
European Practice and Experience

Translation of the principle of sustainable development into policy and practice, and the evaluation of the outcomes of these strategic interventions, are some of the most pressing challenges facing policymakers in Europe and beyond. The chapters in this book contribute to the debate surrounding these challenges. By exploring the conceptual and methodological issues relating to the evaluation of sustainable development and analysing European practice and experience, this work provides a coherent and integrated contribution to our understanding of these issues.
