We work in networks and projects. A qualified team of junior and senior
researchers conducts every project. Internal experts from the Vienna University
of Economics and Business Administration and external experts from our
Pan-European network supply us with a broad variety of additional know-how
and experience. Most of our research teams work interdisciplinary and
can draw on long-term cooperation with other experts. By developing and
implementing our projects we obey the following objectives:
Scientific objective: We strive towards creating
and disseminating scientifically produced knowledge which is valuable
for the implementation of the guiding model of sustainable development
on all societal levels (i.e. on the individual, the corporate, the regional,
the state and the international level). By conducting theoretical research
and applied projects in interdisciplinary teams, core competencies of
the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration are strengthened
in a practically relevant, scientifically demanding and promising research
area.
Strategic objective: We strive towards the long term
establishment of research areas in which a series of theoretical research
and applied projects enrich each other. In so doing, we secure the continuity
(of both contents and personnel) which is necessary to develop and sustain
international networks, foster academic careers and remain competitive
on an international scale.
Mix of theoretical research and applied projects: In
recent years we have been able to undertake a good mixture of theoretical
research and applied projects. This mixture proved to be very fruitful
for both types of projects. On the one hand, theoretical research projects
benefited from practically relevant research questions derived from
more application-oriented projects. Furthermore we were able to disseminate
the “actionable knowledge” produced in research projects
among both the scientific community and practitioners. This implies
that, on the other hand, applied projects and their contractors benefited
essentially from the expertise generated in the theoretical research
projects. Due to our positive experiences with this mixture, we will
work towards continuing this practice.
Scientific policy consulting is a particular form
of applied projects in which we combine scientific expertise with practically-relevant
advice. Repeatedly, this activity proved to be a particularly interesting
catalysts for research projects, which, in turn, fed back to our consulting
activities. In this context our objective is to reconcile close cooperation
with the contractors with the requirements of scientific neutrality
and independence.
