CSR Policies in EU Member States

This is the website of the EU project “Analysis of national policies on CSR, in support of a structured exchange of information on national CSR policies and initiatives” (Tender No VT/2005/063). The project was commissioned by DG Employment and Social Affairs in early 2006, and it was completed in March 2008. It has supported the exchange of experience of the EU High-Level Group on CSR (CSR HLG) over a period of two years. For more information about the CSR HLG, click here. This handout gives an overview of six CSR policy topics. The following three have been selected by the CSR HLG as subjects of the upcoming three policy analyses:

  • CSR awareness raising
  • CSR and public procurement
  • Socially Responsible Investment (SRI)

 

CSR Awareness Raising initiatives

This part of the project focuses on CSR awareness raising initiatives by national/federal governments of EU Member States. It consists of a survey of 85 initiatives and three in-depth case studies on the “Knowledge and Information Centre on CSR” in the Netherlands, “People and Profit” in Denmark and “Globalt Ansvar” in Sweden.

Sustainable Public Procurement initiatives

This part of the project focuses on Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) initiatives by national/federal governments of EU Member States. It consists of a survey of 103 initiatives and three in-depth case studies on the legal framework on SPP in France, strategies on SPP in the UK and guidelines on Green Public Procurement in Austria. All results are documented in the final report..

Socially Responsible Investment initiatives

This part of the project focuses on Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) in Europe. It provides an introduction to SRI in Europe, describes 14 government initiatives on SRI from several EU Member States, and it summarises what SRI experts from the financial services sector expect from governments in this respect. All results are documented in the final report.
